Silver Lake Shines Again
Unveiling the Newly Revitalized Gem of Waterloo Park
In 2018, a Class Environmental Assessment Study was conducted on Waterloo Park's Silver Lake and Laurel Creek to identify the best rehabilitation strategy. The study recommended enhancements for Laurel Creek upstream of Silver Lake and improvements for Silver Lake itself.

The goal was to enhance connectivity within Waterloo Park and its surrounding uptown Waterloo area by improving access to the park's interior perimeter walkway, updating the History Walk around Silver Lake, linking the Perimeter Institute site to the south, and adding wayfinding elements to inform and encourage exploration. In addition to better pedestrian circulation, the plan included enhancements such as improved lighting, new amenities, and water fountain features.
The new facilities are designed to offer opportunities for play, learning, and relaxation and include outdoor concessions, washrooms, information facilities, performance and gathering spaces, water features and sculptural focal points, horticultural gardens, naturalized plantings, and canoe rental areas.
