Laval’s Aquatic Complex: A State-of-the-Art Hub for Recreation, Sport, and Community

Located in the heart of the North Shore’s emerging downtown core, this public project addresses Laval’s need for modern infrastructure that enhances daily life and promotes sports and recreation.

Rooted in biophilic design, Laval’s Aquatic Complex is a vibrant, family- and community-oriented space. It provides state-of-the-art facilities to nurture future Olympians and high-performance athletes.

Color delineates different areas: warm yellow infuses the bright swimming zones with energy, while deep blue creates a calming atmosphere in private spaces.

Designed for diverse users, the building has three sections. The first welcomes visitors with a spacious lobby, an agora, and a recreational pool with a waterslide and interactive games. The central area houses changing rooms, administrative offices, and a gymnasium for local teams. The final section is dedicated to elite sports, featuring an Olympic-sized pool and a diving basin with a rare 10-meter diving tower, making it a premier training ground in Quebec.

Innovative features, like a movable bridge that divides the Olympic pool and an adjustable floor for varying depths, enhance adaptability for competitions and events. Spectators access bleachers via a raised corridor with views of both pools. Every space is designed for universal accessibility.

Universal access was central to the approach, ensuring that aquatic activities, which transcend age and ability, are welcoming to all.

The result is a cutting-edge facility that balances recreation and high-performance sports, enriching community health and fostering local talent.
