From Factory Floor to Future Office

Staebler Insurance brings new life to the Breithaupt Block with a bold workspace that blends industrial heritage and contemporary design.

The Breithaupt Block in Kitchener, Ontario, has long stood as a symbol of adaptive reuse—where early 20th-century industrial architecture meets the evolving needs of today’s innovation economy. One of the latest additions to this dynamic development is Staebler Insurance, who now occupies a freshly reimagined space that celebrates both heritage and modern functionality.

Once a rubber factory, the Breithaupt Block has been transformed into a LEED Gold-certified commercial hub, retaining its original brick and timber bones while integrating state-of-the-art systems and design. The Staebler office fits seamlessly within this context, offering a sophisticated, human-centered environment built around transparency, warmth, and texture.

Designed with intention, the interiors balance the building’s industrial history with contemporary finishes. Exposed wood beams, original masonry, and steel elements are juxtaposed with deep navy millwork, soft acoustic ceiling panels, and curated lighting. Collaborative zones and private offices are thoughtfully distributed throughout the open plan, while areas like the boardroom and reception elevate everyday interactions with clean lines and smart material choices.

Custom details—such as handmade tile finishes, a bold kitchen mural, and accessible design features—reflect a commitment not just to aesthetics, but to comfort, inclusivity, and durability. The project is a testament to what can be achieved when architecture, construction, and design align around a clear, modern vision.

From legacy roots to future-forward workplaces, this space represents more than just an office—it’s part of a larger architectural story about renewal, adaptability, and the value of building with character.
