Situated on a rocky point extending into a lake in Quebec's Lanaudière region, Cottage on the Point transforms a beloved family log cabin that has stood on the site for over 40 years. Designed by Paul Bernier Architecte, the renovation expands the cottage while preserving its original character and deep connection to the landscape.

Rather than extending outward toward the shoreline, the architects added a contemporary second-storey volume above the existing structure, creating additional living space while maximizing views of the lake and surrounding forest. The contrast between the rustic log-and-stone cabin and the clean-lined wood-clad addition celebrates the meeting of two architectural eras while maintaining a cohesive relationship through materiality and form.

Inside, the restored stone fireplace remains the heart of the home, complemented by a light-filled interior, minimalist detailing, and a new Douglas fir structure that preserves the original cathedral ceiling below. Elevated lake views from the new primary bedroom, abundant natural light, and a screened porch overlooking the water complete a retreat that balances tradition with modern living.
