Conestoga College Unveils Indigenous-Themed Classrooms to Enhance Learning
Newly transformed spaces at Doon and Skilled Trades campuses feature cultural elements, including a circular wood ceiling and facilities for traditional ceremonies.
Conestoga College has unveiled two classrooms with Indigenous themes to enhance student learning experiences. This renovation project has transformed existing classrooms into culturally inspired spaces at the Doon campus in Kitchener and the new Conestoga Skilled Trades Campus in Cambridge. These classrooms provide students with an inclusive and culturally rich educational setting.

One standout feature is the intricately detailed circular wood ceiling, which incorporates the four colors representing the cardinal directions: North, South, East, and West. Additionally, the classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art exhaust systems to accommodate traditional smudging ceremonies, ensuring that Indigenous practices are honored and reflected.
These renovations mark Phase One of a larger initiative to incorporate more Indigenous-inspired elements throughout Conestoga’s educational spaces. Phase Two of the Indigenous Classroom Project includes the creation of a large gathering circle between the two buildings at the Skilled Trades Campus. The first building started welcoming students in 2022, and the second, a 220,000-square-foot facility designed to host various skilled trades programs, is slated to open in September 2026.
